DESCRIPTION

CAPS is 3-(cyclohexylamino)-1-propane-sulfonic acid, CAS # 1135-40-6, with the formula C9H19NO3S, and Molecular Weight of 221.32 g/mol.

CAPS is a zwitterionic buffering agent used in biochemistry and molecular biology research. It is a cyclohexylamine buffer that is useful for the pH range of 9.7 – 11.1.

CAPS is commonly used to study enzymatic processes above the physiological pH.

CAPS is an excellent buffer for the transfer of high molecular weight proteins to nitrocellulose and PVDF membranes after SDS-PAGE. It is also used in transfers for protein sequencing.

CAPS displays only weak or negligible complexation capabilities for some metals making it a suitable non-coordinating buffer for use in solutions containing metal ions.

CAPS is a suitable buffer to be used with the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) protein estimation assay.

The CAPS buffer solution is composed of 0.5 M CAPS [3-(cyclohexylamino)-1-propane-sulfonic acid], pH 9.5 ± 0.1 to pH 11 ± 0.1 under the following catalog numbers:
