DESCRIPTION
Med Biosciences PBS-Glycerol Viral Sampling and Transport Kit is intended for the collection and transport of human and animal viral clinical specimens from the collection site to the testing laboratory.
PBS-Glycerol sampling and transport medium is supplied in a collection kit format. Each collection kit (in a peel-pouch) consists of two sterile components: a pre-labeled polypropylene screwcap tube (cryogenic, leak-proof, shatter-proof and can be centrifuged) with conical shaped bottom filled with 2 mL of GBS-Glycerol Transport Medium (Cat. No. PBSG01-2ML) and a specimen collection iSwabâ„¢ which has a tip flocked with soft nylon microfibers. The swabs are provided in two different tip sizes to accommodate various specimen types (nose, throat, vagina, and skin wounds).
Two collection system configurations are available:
PBS-Glycerol Sampling Kit-1 (Cat. No. K-PBSG01-OS01-2ML) contains 2 mL of PBS-Glycerol medium and a regular size swab tip that is flocked with soft Nylon Microfibers (iSwabâ„¢ Cat. No. OPN-001).
PBS-Glycerol Sampling Kit-2 (Cat. No. K-PBSG01-NP01-2ML) contains 2 mL of PBS-Glycerol medium and a flexible mini-tip size swab that is flocked with soft Nylon Microfibers (iSwabâ„¢ Cat. No. NPN-001). Please see the table.

iSwabs™ are High quality Nylon Flocked Swabs that are entirely made in Med Biosciences Manufacturing facility in Bloomington Illinois USA.
We use special flocking technology granting optimum sample collection and subsequent analysis.
Swabs are made from high quality USA-made medical grade raw materials (Nylon Fiber, ABS, & Adhesive) that are proven for not interfering with subsequent molecular and microbial analysis.
The swab tip is flocked with special soft nylon microfibers to maximize the adsorption capacity of microbial particles and high releasing capacity of the harvested sample to the transfer medium with the least entrapment of particles in the swab.
Each swab is individually wrapped in a peel paper/plastic pouch.
Certified sterilization of each batch of the packaged swabs.
COMPOSITION OF PBS-GLYCEROL MEDIUM:
PBS-Glycerol medium is composed of 50% of PBS [68.5 mM Sodium Chloride (NaCl), 1.35 mM Potassium Chloride (KCl), 5 mM Dibasic Di-Sodium Phosphate (Na2HPO4), and 0.9 mM Monobasic Potassium Phosphate (KH2PO4)], and 50% Glycerol, pH 7.4 ± 0.1, with the following antibiotics: (2 x 106 IU/L) Benzylpenicillin, (200 mg/L) Streptomycin, (2 x 106 IU/L) Polymyxin B (2 x 106 IU/L), (250 mg/L) Gentamicin, (0.5 x 106 IU/L) Nystatin, 60 mg/L) Ofloxacin Hydrochloride (60 mg/L), and (0.2 g/L) Sulfamethoxazole.
PBS-Glycerol medium is produced under highest manufacturing standards. It is formulated from highly pure molecular-grade chemicals in autoclaved 18.2 mega Ω-cm DNase-RNase-free deionized water.
The Medium is sterilized by autoclaving and filtration using 0.22 µm filter.
The medium is a clear transparent viscous liquid and is negative for microbial growth after 48 hours at 37á´¼C.
Confirmed tests for the absence of DNase/RNase activity in the medium.
Our medium is provided in a pre-labeled polypropylene screwcap tube with conical shaped bottom filled with 2 mL of PBS-Glycerol.
Our tubes/vials have the following criteria: Screwcap, Upright free-standing tube with Conical bottom, Clear engraved graduation (0.5 to 10 mL), Sterile, DNase/RNase-free, Cryogenic, Leak-proof, Shatter-proof and can be Centrifuged. Tube internal dimensions: 94 x Ø14.8 mm, and external dimensions: 95 x Ø 15.9 mm. Tube volume is 10 mL. We can accommodate packaging the medium in any tube size of your choice!

NOTES
Because of the complex contents of antibiotics in this medium, it should be kept frozen until use. However, it can be stored at 4 ᴼC for 48–96 hours (optimally less than 48 hours) or at room temperature for short periods of 1–2 days.
Each batch of our medium kits is vigorously evaluated for efficacy, stability, and sterility.
This product is for research use and is not intended for in vivo use.
The product is shipped in a dry ice. Store at -20 á´¼C upon receiving.
